Somatic Experiencing (SE)
Somatic Experiencing is a gentle mind-body approach to treating trauma and relieving chronic stress developed by Dr. Peter Levine. Trauma is defined as anything that overwhelms the brain’s ability to cope, leaves an individual feeling overwhelmed, or impacts their ability to be in the here and now. The SE approach addresses emotional, developmental, and attachment trauma as well as a myriad of chronic stress symptoms. Marie uses this model for one on one individual sessions as well as within couples, groups, and trauma-focused intensives.
Brainspotting (BSP)
Brainspotting (BSP) is another trauma treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, and other challenging symptoms. Within the safe and trusting therapist/client relationship, Brainspotting is a tool used for processing and releasing traumatic experiences and symptoms. Where many other approaches use the cognitive brain as a way to process, Brainspotting works within the subconscious brain and body through direct access to the nervous system for more efficient and lasting change. Marie uses this model mostly within individual therapy sessions.
